Chapter Director's corner
Well the thermometer tells me summer is definitely here. June saw us presenting two Trike classes, one in Clarksville, TN and the other in Russellville, AL. Members of Chapters N, H, and S attended the Russellville class and made this a well-attended class; our thanks to all who attended. We know it is hot when we ride on the highway, but standing on asphalt while participating in a riding course is even more intense. Our special thanks to the Chapter S two-wheel riders who came out and helped change the cones around for the exercises, it let us finish much quicker so we could go get ice cream.
Since this article is late getting out I will add a couple of items that would normally not have made it into this article:
Gene Smith is recuperating at the Athens rehabilitation center from spinal surgery. He has our prayers for a speedy recovery, he is in room 97, Jan and I stopped by to see him last night.
John Nairmore’s father passed away 9 July, viewing will be 6-8 PM on 11 July with the funeral the morning of 12 July. We plan on going down to the viewing to lend our support.
We plan to offer an ARC in Russellville on 17 September. The classroom is expected to start at 0800 at the office of the Police Department, then lunch at Too Fat Sisters, followed by the range at the Russellville High School.
Don’t forget the ride planning meeting being held at our house, 15015 Lancelot Circle, Harvest on 24 July at 2PM. We plan to hold a Motorist Awareness Seminar beginning at 2 so those members who need it for the “Levels Program” can get it completed. We would also appreciate your input as to a date when everyone can be available for a “Road Captain” course that we need to hold to make all of us better group-riders. All are encouraged to attend to provide their input as to desired activities or ride destinations.
Ride Safe, Ride often, call friends to join you.

News from Your District Directors
Greetings fellow riders, another month has slipped by us but boy what a month it was. We had our annual Alabama District Rally in Eufaula in May and certainly had a great time. Congratulations to our own Chapter N for winning the GWRRA’s Got Talent show and they will be going on to Wing Ding to represent Region A in the talent show there. Great job folks, that’s the way to represent the Alabama District. If you missed the rally you certainly missed a lot of fun. We announced at closing that next year’s Alabama Rally will be held at the Ashbury Hotel and Suites in Mobile, Al. We are certainly looking forward to going back to Mobile, we have had lots of fun there in the past and look forward to another great rally there again. The theme next year is “Sitcom Mania”. We want to remember all of the great TV sitcoms that we all grew up with. Happy Days, MASH, The Carol Burnett Show, I love Lucy, and the list could go on and on. Please circle the dates next May and make plans to be in Mobile with us for a great time.
Wing Ding is just around the corner. We hope many of you are planning to go to Billings to not only have fun and enjoy a great trip but to support our own Chapter N as they attempt to bring back home the 1st place prize in the GWRRA’s got talent show as they will represent Region A in that program. If you are going be sure to preregister so you will have everything ready when you get there. Alabama has the registration desk on Wednesday and we would certainly appreciate it if you have an hour or two to spare, come by and help out. You will get to meet people, not only from around the country, but from around the world. Should be loads of fun so come on by and sit with us for a little while.
This Alabama District plaque is back this year and will be offered on a regular basis for chapters to capture. Please watch the district website and see when the plaque is offered and get your chapter together and go after it. The chapter that captures the plaque will then get a chance to give it away at their choice of places and get to have other chapters come visit them. This is not only fun for everyone, it is another opportunity for everyone to ride together and enjoy the company of other members. Remember, we are all one big family in GWRRA and we hopefully enjoy seeing each other on a regular basis. Also, remember that the chapter with the most miles for the year will have their charter fees paid by the District for next year, another incentive for you to come out and enjoy yourselves. We hope every chapter will participate this year.
A very big thank you, from Linda and I and the entire District Team, to everyone who attended this year’s District Rally. A special thank you to all of you who volunteered to help out at the rally, we could not put these rallies on without YOU, thank you.
Please remember all of our men and women in uniform and their families and all of our first responders and their families. They work to serve and protect us each and every day. A big thank you to all of you. Please be safe and drive defensively out there on the road, watch out for the other drivers, they don’t always look out for us. We hope to see you soon,
A Note from Your North Alabama Assistant District Directors
The Traveling Plaque is “Traveling,” and Al-D is the proud new recipient. The reason for the plaque is to encourage each chapter to ride, visit and fellowship with other chapter members. Watch the District website for the next grab time and location.
As we announced, the 2017 Alabama District Rally is going back to Mobile. The theme is “Sitcom Mania.” There are some really good ideas for the talent show, dioramas and costumes. So, put on your “thinking cap” and come up with some great ideas. Please make your hotel and rally registrations now. The Ashbury Hotel will fill fast so make your plans to attend.
If we can do anything for you, let us know. We would like to thank each one for all you do for our organization.

A Note from Your District Educators
Rider Education/Motorist Awareness
The good news is that between Jan and Carl, Roy Fosnight, and Aaron Lambert, we had twenty three students who took part in the two TRC courses presented in Russellville during June. Roy had a classroom session at his house with Aaron's assistance and then the range Saturday morning; Jan and Carl had the classroom Saturday morning at the Russellville Police station, then the range Saturday afternoon. We were hot, but successful. The range was a "Drivers Training" lot at the local high school. Thanks to Mark Swindle and Chapter S for setting this up. Mark has arranged for us to do a two wheel ARC there on 17 September. Kudos to Chapter S for their help in facilitating the range portion of the courses. Kudos also to Too Fat Sisters, the restaurant which hosts Chapter S meetings, for making a wonderful lunch available.
Robert Brown and Harry Leach are scheduled to teach a TRC in Lincoln on 10 July. Thanks to Ron Landers and Chapter D for their assistance in finding facilities, as well as Robert and Harry for volunteering as instructors.
Thanks also to James Clayson and Bruce Williamson of Chapter U, Carl surveyed the parking lots at Troy State University in Dothan (nominated by Chapter U) and determined them to be suitable for use as ranges, we plan to set up both a TRC and ARC there in October. Our recommendation would be 8 October for the classes if James can make sure the parking lot and two classroom areas will be available that day. We really appreciate the work the Chapter Directors and Chapter Educators are putting into this effort. This is what it takes to keep our Rider Education program on track.
We would really love to be able to hold riding courses in each area of the state on a regular basis, but we definitely need the assistance of the folks living in those areas to find and get access to facilities.
We want to express our sincere appreciation to all of you in helping to keep our Rider Education program viable!
