Chapter Director's corner
It is with a great deal of sorrow that I have to note the passing of a member, it is even worse when it is one I have known for as long as I have been involved with GWRRA. Gene Smith passed away while we were off on our Wing Ding trip, he will be missed by many in the chapter. We all need to provide any comfort and assistance to Kitty that she might need in the coming months.
Our trip to Wing Ding was a great success, some of us taking in the Kentucky Rally, the Nebraska/South Dakoda Rally and then Wing Ding. All eight of us that were at Wing Ding then traveled on to Cody, WY and Yellowstone for additional sightseeing. We managed to see a wonderful assortment of both scenery and wildlife and had a simply wonderful time. Be sure to ask Jan and Melissa about the “Cow-a-lows”, or “B-ows”. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to visit with friends that we so seldom get to see.
Next year’s Wing Ding will be in Grapevine, Texas. Grapevine is located north of the midpoint between Dallas and Fort Worth. The dates are 27 August through 2 September 2017. Plan now to enable yourself time to save the time and money necessary to make the trip. It is a long one day ride or an easy two day one,
This Saturday, September 17th, we are offering an Advanced Rider Course in conjunction with Chapter S in Russellville. The classroom will start at 0800 at the Russellville City Police Station. (400 Jackson Ave N, Russellville, AL 35653.) Range training will be at the Driver's Training Lot at the school. (1865 Waterloo Rd, Russellville, AL 35653).
We also plan to have a session 2 October at the parking lot at East Limestone High School starting at 10:00 for the co-riders who wish to learn the basics of how to ride a trike. This is not a full blown riding course. It is just to enable the co-riders to know how to operate the trike and do a little practice. Several have expressed an interest in being able to operate the trike well enough to be able to get them and the primary rider home in case an emergency makes it necessary.
Also on 2 October a Team Riding Seminar is planned to be held at our house starting at 2:00 PM, I would like to encourage everyone to attend.
Ride Safe, Ride often, and call friends to join you.

News from Your District Directors
Greetings fellow riders, we hope you have had a great month and had a chance to get out and ride with your chapter. We hope you have had many great rides and adventures. We have had a busy month. We were in Russellville, with Roy and Anita Fosnight and several Chapter S members, and had a Horizons class this month. We had 16 participants and, judging from the comments we have heard, everyone had a great time. This is available to all chapters if you have the place and the attendees to fill up a class. Let us or Roy and Anita know if you and your chapter have the desire to have one of these or any of the many other classes offered by GWRRA.
At this writing Wing Ding is just around the corner and we are looking forward to our trip to Billings. We love to travel in the western part of our great nation and this is a perfect opportunity to do so. Lots of interesting and beautiful things to see and do going to and coming back from that area. We hope you had the chance to go this year but if not please plan on attending next year.
The finale of the rally season in Region A is not too far away. Both the Mississippi District Rally and the Region Rally are coming up in October and we hope all of you are planning to attend one or both of these great events. Both Mississippi and the Region Team always put on a great show for us. Please check the District website for all the info on both rallies.
Please remember all of our men and women in uniform who protect and serve us daily along with all of our first responders including police and fire and all of their families. These are troubling times for these folks right now and they need our full support. When you have the opportunity please tell them thank you. We hope to see all of you out on the road.

A Note from Your North Alabama Assistant District Directors
“I can’t find anything to do at a rally.” Really?
The rallies are like your chapter - the more you participate, the more you will enjoy the activities. During the rally there are many activities planned for all the members. There are seminars, riding poker runs, chapter challenges, talent show skits, bike show and many other things in which the chapters can be involved. Check out the material from the local Chamber included in your registration packet. There are several things to see and do which are in a day’s ride of the rally. These materials are provided to promote the local attractions and things of interest.
Many of us remember the days of countless hours wandering the vendor lot and looking for that next piece of chrome or what pinstripe to get on the bike. Unfortunately, those days are gone forever. The Internet and the health of many vendors are slowly taking their toll. It is time to step back and take advantage of other things happening at your rally.
“I can’t find anything to do at a rally. I don’t think so.”

A Note from Your District Educators
Rider Education/Motorist Awareness
Greetings from Billings! We have had a wonderful trip, visiting the Kentucky rally, Mammoth Cave, SD/NE rally, Mt. Rushmore, the SD Badlands, Crazy Horse monument, and Little Big Horn on the way. It has been wonderful seeing all of the old friends and making new ones. I wish everyone could have joined us. I will also mention that one motorcyclist on their way to Wing Ding had an unfortunate meeting with a semi, so please, everyone remember to ride safely. Even when you do everything right there is still danger, and I can’t afford to lose any friends.
We expect to have an Advanced Rider Course (ARC) (two wheeled vehicles) on September 17th in Russellville, and a TRC in Dothan on 8 October and an ARC on 15 October. Further courses will be announced once facilities are firmed up and instructors are available. We are going to be requiring a $25 per bike deposit to register for the classes, we plan to refund the fee to riders who actually show up and take the classes. It is not fair to others to reserve a seat and then not show up. We are limited to 12 bikes or trikes in a class, and need to ensure we have the spaces for folks who will show up.
We appreciate the help we have received in finding the ranges in Russellville and Dothan. These ranges allow us to provide the much needed riding classes for our members. Additional ranges need to be found in our state to accommodate the demand for riding classes. Finding these new ranges will minimize the distance the students have to travel in the state to take a riding class.
Please be aware of changing conditions and adjust your riding accordingly. Ride safe, ride often, call a friend.

A Note from our Alabama District Membership Enhancement Coordinators
What can be said about the members who step up to the MEC positions for their Chapter. Well to begin with all of us can give them a big thank you for taking on this position as our membership will grow because of the Chapter MEC’s who contact the New Members and Prospective Members.
Ride Safe stay hydrated.
