Chapter Director's corner
We started the year off in a great way, meeting together with a total of 105 members from across the district at Wintzell’s in Guntersville. A great time was had by those attending. We visited Chapter S on the second for their monthly chapter meeting. We followed up that outing with a trip to Campbell’s Station with Chapter S on the nineth to sample some really good steaks. I am not a big fan of beef, but even I enjoyed the steaks there.
The District Officer’s conference was in Gardendale on the 16th, we were joined by Floyd and Audrey McQueen, the new Chapter Educators, and Larry Bradley, the new Chapter Treasurer. I would like to thank them for attending, it is important for the chapter officers to be acquainted with the District Staff so they can get support when needed.
At the chapter gathering, we were pleased to welcome Phyllis and Mickey Claunch as visitors. Hopefully they will choose to join us on a regular basis. Melissa Rodgers was honored with the chapter “Atta-Boy” awarded to someone from the chapter for something they did in the past month to gain our appreciation; in Melissa’s case it was for hosting a New Year’s Eve party for the chapter members at her home. Kurt Chadwick got the infamous “Ill Eagle”, for something he did that did not necessarily generate enthusiasm; in this case it was wondering why his helmet was so tight: he had Lynne’s on instead of his own.
Just last night we decided that safety of the members dictated we cancel the dinner we had planned for Francesco’s in Decatur, the members really enjoy the food there, so you will see it reappearing on the ride schedule soon. We have rescheduled the Ride Planning Meeting for the 30th of January 10:00 AM at Kurt and Lynne Chadwick’s home.
We are looking at getting another shirt order together, we will have details and prices available at the Ride Planning Meeting.
I am fully aware that most of us belong to this group because of our love of riding, but I like to think this group is much more than a group of motorcyclist, to me we are a family we choose to join.

News from Your District Directors
Greetings fellow riders, we were just celebrating Christmas a few days ago and now January is almost gone! Where does time go? January started off with several Chapters having New Years Day rides. From what we have found out, all were successful and everyone had loads of fun to start off the New Year. We hope you were a part of one of these events. On the 16th we held our annual Officers Conference in Gardendale, Al. We had the chance to say thanks to the retiring CD’s from 2015 and a welcome to their replacements for 2016. Looking forward to February we have our first leadership training class of the year coming up on the 20th. We have an OCP class scheduled at the UAB Medical West Hospital training room, in Bessemer, AL. Please see the district website for more information. You DO NOT have to be an officer to attend this class. If you are interested please contact Roy and Anita Fosnight or call us. We will be glad to talk to you about the class and help you sign up.
The first rally of the season is the Florida District Rally to be held the 17th, 18th and 19th. We hope many of you will get the opportunity to attend and help kick off the 2016 rally season for Region A.
In closing, we would like to issue a special thanks to the Alabama District Team for a job well done in 2015. A District Director could not ask for a harder working group that can always be counted on to be there for the members. When you see them please take a moment to say thanks to all of them for all of the personal time and effort they put forth to serve you, the members of the Alabama District each and every day. It is our pleasure to serve you. Please remember our men and women in uniform and their families as well as all of our first responders and their families as they serve and protect us each day. We hope to see all of you out on the road. Please ride safely,
Frank and Linda Teasley
A Note from Your North Alabama Assistant District Directors
The 2016 District Officers Conference was well attended and Thanks to all of the Chapter Officers that were there.
One of the points we touched on was participation. Not just participating in your chapter but participation with other chapters. Over the years it seems that our chapters don’t visit other chapters as much. This year we would like for you to visit at least 4 chapters in Alabama. Not the ones that are really close but 4 that would be a good day ride or an overnight trip. Just get out and visit.
Several chapters have scheduled a MFA class and we are glad to provide these for them. We like to do these during the winter months so everyone will be able to ride when the weather improves. If you need a class just give us a call and we can get it done for you.
If we can do anything for you just let us know.

We all thoroughly enjoyed the get-together at Wintzell's in Guntersville on New Year's Day, thanks to the ones who came up with the idea, the organizers, and the Wintzell's staff. Service took a while, but that is to be expected when a hundred and five folks drop in at one time. Now that the holidays are over it is time to turn our thoughts toward spring.
I know, with the weather we've had lately, it is hard to think positive about outdoor activities, but once warmer weather is here it is too late to do some of the planning. I know Robert and Gail Brown have been busy teaching Medic First Aid classes, now Jan and I are getting the manikins so we can do some of the more northern chapters. The rest of the district needs to be thinking of their training needs and communicating them to us. There are a lot of things we can help with, but mind-reading is not one of them.
On the topic of training, I still need the Chapter Directors and Educators to be helping me find suitable sites for the riding courses. If you find sites that are suitable, flat, free of obstacles, with a well maintained surface, and able to be blocked off from other traffic, nominate it to me and I am more than willing to come check it out. The size requirement is 206 ft. X 310 ft. for the Advanced Rider's Course (ARC); 206 ft. X 310 ft. for a Trike Rider's Course (TRC), and the range MUST be approved by the District Educator for insurance and accreditation purposes. We also have to get permission from the property owner and provide them with assurance that we will do no damage to their facility. As of 29 January I am no longer working at a full time job, so I am more available to track down leads, but I need you to help identify possible candidate locations and a Point of Contact for me to talk to about the facility.
Have hope, Spring is on the way.
A Note from our Alabama District Membership Enhancement Coordinators
Wow got busy doing everything else and just realized it is News Letter Time.
They are making changes to get into the right year. There will not be a Region News Letter judging this time. If you want the 2015 Newsletters judged I need those 3 of your choice by FEB. 11st. For this next year I will need the 2016 Newsletters in October. I know it doesn't make sense to me either. New rules will be posted on line after March 11th.
Chapter of the Year packets I need by FEB. 1st so we can announce the winners at Chapter Y's fun day in March. When you're doing your Chapter of Year packet you need to have the manual and score sheets in front of you and do them each section at a time. When finished use the check off sheet and send all required paper work to me. It takes a lot of time to do these as everything has to be documented. There will be an updated rules and manual post on line after March 1st. They did not want to confuse anyone with changes for this year.
Team applications and MOU’s have been changed so make sure you are using the right ones.
CD’s are responsible for all their chapters’ paper work. Make sure your team members are doing their jobs.
MEC’s new members and prospective new members have got to be called. Email is a last resort. Phoenix is trying to get actual count on who gets called so they are going to be, calling some of the new members to see if they were contacted and when. They will also be doing random calls to Chapter MEC's to see if they made the calls. Look out for number one Make the calls.
This is getting a little long so ride safe keep warm.
Thanks for your time
Kenneth & Veronica Campbell
