March has been a rainy time, mostly, it seems, on Saturdays, now it is time for April.  Plans are underway for Mad Day and the District Rally in May, more about that later.  We managed to visit with Tennessee chapter S and four other chapters during just one ride this month.  We ended up taking a car because of the weather, but the companionship was great. We also taught a First Aid/CPR class for the chapter with nine of our chapter in attendance, good deal.  Roy and Anita from Chapter B were also in attendance.

Our trips have largely been in cars because of the weather, but several of us have managed to get in a few rides. According to Kurt, Floyd has hit the “Mother Lode” of restaurants which were closed at the time of the chapter’s arrival.  Audrey and Lynne have been busy with the “Windshield Cover” project, and are showing great progress. Thanks to both of them for taking this on.

May 14 will be our Motorist Awareness Day for Alabama.  Chapter H has the morning shift, and Chapter S may join us at the I-65 Welcome Center coming south from Ardmore,  we need to be there from 8AM until noon, at which time Chapter B should relieve us and we can ride to someplace for lunch.

The Alabama District Rally will be 19 thru 21 May in Eufaula. We are trying to finalize the contributions for the Couple of the Year basket and any door-prizes anyone would care to donate. The rally theme is Christmas in Dixie, so I am sure you have excess Christmas decorations or Christmas themed things to get rid of (donate).

At the moment, I know of four couples who are planning to go to Wing Ding in Billings, several who will be visiting the Tennessee Rally and the Georgia Rally, so it seems we will have a fun and enjoyable summer.

While teaching a Medic First Aid course in Russellville, I visited a couple of parking lots that seem quite acceptable for Advanced Rider Courses and Trike Rider Courses, we are trying to make arrangements for 18 June.  I will furnish more details as they become available.

Ride Safe, Ride often, call friends to join you.

News from Your District Directors

Greetings fellow riders, with the passing of another month we get closer to full time riding season. Some warmer temps have been seen this past month with next month promising to be even better. Please make sure that you are as ready to ride as your bike/trike.

March has been a busy month and April promises to be even better. Kicking off this month on April 8th, the 40 to Phoenix ride will be stopping in Leeds. They will visit the Barbers Museum and that evening Chapters T and Y will be hosting a dinner at the Irondale Café. The Café is normally closed for dinner but they have agreed to open up just for our group. Dinner will begin at 6PM. We hope you will make plans to join us there and visit with all the riders. The next day, Saturday the 9th will be our annual District Picnic at the Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury, Al. Hours are from 10AM until 2PM. Admission to the park is free and so is the meal. We will have door prizes, a 50/25/25 and games. While there, take a little extra time to visit the museum just across the road from where we will be. The exhibits change all the time so even if you have been there before there will be new things to see.

On Tuesday April 12, Chapter U in Dothan will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary. Details are on the website. We hope everyone can attend.

The Georgia District Rally is next up on April 21, 22, 23 in Trenton, Ga. They have over 40 vendors scheduled to be there and are promising a good time for all who attend. We hope to see everyone there. Finally to finish off the month Chapter G will have their annual fun day at the Lowery Community Center. Details are on the website. This is always a fun event so we hope you are making plans to be there. Also, don’t forget the Alabama District Rally coming up in May at Lakepoint Lodge in Eufaula. If you need a room you better get it reserved soon, they are going fast. Please get your registration to Sara as soon as possible.

Finally, please remember our men and women in uniform and their families as they serve and protect us each and every day. Also remember our first responders and their families as they take care of us as well. We hope to see all of you out on the road,

Frank and Linda Teasley

March has come and gone, and now we move into April.  This month is the official beginning of our riding season. During March, Chapters Y and F & Z had their Fun Days. Thanks to both of these chapters and their members for organizing these events. Thanks goes out also to all of the members who attended. We hope everyone had a good time.

In April there are several events to put on your ride calendar. On Friday, April 8th, the 40 to Phoenix will be in Birmingham. This ride originates in Wilmington NC and ends in Phoenix, AZ at the Home Office. They will be visiting the Barbers Motorsports Museum on Friday. On Friday night, Chapters Y & T will be entertaining them at the Irondale Café. The Café will be open just for this event, and it begins at 5pm. Several riders from Chapter A will be joining this group and riding with them.
Anyone who would like to attend will be welcome.

April 9th is the Alabama District picnic. It will be at the Confederate Memorial park and will begin at 10am.  It is earlier in the year so that it will, hopefully, not be as warm.

The Alabama District Rally is in May. This is the time for us as a District to entertain our members from Region A and beyond. Please make plans to attend and get your registrations completed and room reservations made. All information is on the District website, so come on down and have a good time.

Thanks for all you do, and if we can help you, please give us a call.

A Note from Your District Educators

Rider Education/Motorist Awareness

Alabama District Rider Educator / Motorist Awareness Coordinators

In addition to getting chapter members together to discuss possible destinations for chapter rides, we need to be planning for our safety and the safety of the other riders on the road.  We can impact our own actions and enhance our chances for survival by taking riding courses, but how do we influence the drivers on the highways so they are aware of our presence and vulnerability?  Perhaps by participating in Motorist Awareness events?  Talk to other people and explain the dangers present on the nation's highways.
In Alabama, we have had the opportunity for the last few years to all participate on one day in May by the chapters setting up a Motorist Awareness display and talking to Motorist stopping at the Alabama Welcome Centers We set up tables with literature or any other displays the chapter might think up, bring coolers full of ice and bottles of water to help get the attention of the motorist passing through, and spend that one day encouraging the motoring public to "Watch out for motorcycles" "Don’t text and drive" or other messages the members want to share.  We ask only that your chapter report the number of people you talk to during the event.  If the public wants to take the literature, by all means give it to them, that is what it is for, but don't make them feel obligated to do so, that is how so much of it ends up in restroom trash receptacles.
I have included a map to show the chapters where to set up their MAD Day, the date is 14 May 2016.  I hope we can have nice weather so we can make more contacts.  I would also like to express my  appreciation to all of the members who participated last year during this event.

Well, spring is here, and it came in a lot cooler than it has been. But it is supposed to start warming up again, which means more bikes will be on the road. Hope everyone has done their maintenance and gotten everything ready to ride.

March has been a busy month and April will be the same.

Our District Picnic at Marbury Confederate Park in Marbury AL. will be the 9th from 10 AM till 2 PM, then Tuesday the 12th Chapter  U will be celebrating their 25 anniversary.

On Saturday the 16th, Chapter S will be holding a recruiting day at Longshore Honda in Florence. AL. from 10 AM till 2 PM.  If you’re out riding, stop in and say hi and give them your support. That is on HWY 43 near county RD 20.

The Georgia Rally in Dalton GA. will be the 21st thru the 23rd. This will all be on the inside in the cool, and they have about 40 vendors lined up to keep you happy. You can leave there on Sunday morning and go just a few miles north to Pittsburgh TN. and spend the day at the Cornbread Festival. They have some good bands and lots of good food. As JJ would say, they have some bodacious cornbread. Yep even some moonshine cornbread!

30th is Chapter G’s fun day at the Lowery Community Center in Lowery, AL. 10 AM till 2 PM. They have a good band and good BBQ, and more door prizes than you can shake a stick at. So make the ride down and have fun with the snuff dippers. It is a good overnight trip also for some.

You cannot say there is nothing going on. All you have to do is get out and participate!

A question for the Chapter MEC’s: do you think you should be chosen as the District Chapter MEC? If you think so, let me know why. I may be missing something.

Thanks for all that you do.

Ride safe
